Moderate weekend hog supplies kept numbers ample and prices steady to down 25 cents. Cattle moved steady to 25 cents higher, with sheep steady. Calves and feeders showed varied but firm tones as buyers eyed steady to higher demand, while grain prices and receipts influenced near term margins.
Des Moines reports Monday hog receipts around 37 000 with 35 000 weekly and 51 500 year ago figures. Actuals enter at 31 000 with unloads at two southern Minnesota plants and twelve Iowa facilities plus some out of state. Barrows 160 180 200 lb prices range from 19.25 to 18.00 dollars with lighter weights near 17.50.
Sioux City cattle receipts total 7 500 calves 1 000 with early trade showing good and choice fed steers at 32.00 to 36.25 with some 36 50 to 37 00. Commercial and low good 28 50 to 31 50. Cows slow to steady with utility 23 00 to 24 50 and canners 18 50 to 22 00. Stocker and feeder values firm with load lots 600 to 625 pounds around 35 50 and good to choice held firm.
