Cedar Rapids playgrounds host a busy week with events at Arthur, Bever, Daniels, Ellis, Harrison, Hayes, Kenwood, Lincoln, McKinley, Reed, Riverside, Robbins, Roosevelt, Sinclair, Whitlam and more. Activities include swimming parties, hikes to Ellis Park, tours of local plants and facilities, comic strips, doll parades, scavenger hunts, bike races, and a mock track meet.

Sedlacek Named Waltonian Social Chairman for Ice Cream Party

Milo J. Sedlacek was named Waltonian social chairman for the annual ice cream and cake party on August 10 at Mrs. Bert Smith’s home. Proceeds support Camp Conservation on the Waltonians’ 80 acre Wapsipinicon river tract near Tri Mills, aiding underprivileged Cedar Rapids children’s free camping. The event is sponsored by the Waltonians Salvation Army and Kiwanis with sub‑committee chairs listed.

Atlanta based AP report quotes Dr. George H Bradley and Chris A Hansen of the Communicable Disease Center outlining malaria decline. In 1950 U S cases fell to 2 214 from 63 000 in 1945 with 676 suspected southeastern cases reduced to 26 parasite positive and six domestically transmitted.
