Fort Lauderdale couple transforms abandoned wreck into award winner
Doug Blevins and Jay Hering bought a dilapidated Fort Lauderdale home for 63 000 dollars and 25 000 dollars in improvements. Their 1700 square foot, double lot house earned the 2001 Fort Lauderdale House of the Year award after a full renovation that included a redesigned kitchen, restored terrazzo floors, new plumbing and wiring, and stylish faux finishes. The couple juggled full time work and nightly rehabbing, overcoming roof leaks and water damage to create a modern, coastal home with two full baths and three bedrooms.
