About 75 people gathered outside City Hall to urge fair treatment of black children following a video showing a white officer arresting a Black teen at the Robert A Lee Recreation Center. The event preceded and continued into a City Council meeting with calls to address implicit bias and improve police interactions, amid a June incident and ongoing review.

Iowa push to amend transit funding bill aims to loosen bus limits

Public transit advocates and lawmakers push an amendment to a Senate funding bill to shift money from a dense state seven state rider program to a national bus grant, cutting the grant cap from 15 to 4 percent. Sen Grassley backs the change saying states should compete for bus funds. Iowa would keep 3.4 million in 2015 funds, enough for 35 systems and 1,600 buses, but critics warn cuts could hit seniors and workers.
