Cedar Rapids to hire officer for heroin prevention initiative
Cedar Rapids Police will add one officer funded by federal Midwest HIDTA money to lead heroin prevention efforts, town halls, health fairs, and public awareness while assisting investigations. The officer shifts an experienced worker to the Eastern Iowa prevention initiative. The plan, supported with U.S. Attorney Kevin Techau’s anticipated September approval, cites rising overdose deaths from heroin and opioids in 2010 and during the first half of this year.
