In Olin Iowa residents confront rising floodwaters from the Wapsipinicon River and its tributaries. A north dike failure worsens the surge while shells of floodbuyouts dot the town. Forecasters expect the crest to pass through Olin by mid morning Wednesday.
Floodwaters flood Business Route 151 and surrounding roads in Jones County Iowa. Officials say minor highway damage and possible quick repairs after waters recede. The Corbett’s Mill Bridge near Scotch Grove collapsed, a historic 1871 bowstring arch structure. Cleanup continues in Monticello with extensive damage to Blue Inn Apartments and displaced tenants.
Officials at the Great Jones County Fair in Monticello address the flood impact after the Maquoketa River overflowed when Lake Delhi dam failed. Livestock was evacuated as water rose, the stage area flooded, the Styx Joan Jett and Grand Funk Railroad concert was canceled, and admission was made free for the weekend while crews assess damage and plan cleanup. No date change is planned for the fair.
