Iowa non farm employment dips in June due to school closings
Iowa's non farm employment fell 1,200 in June from May, though the level remains 32,600 above June 1987. Freeman of the Department of Employment Services attributed the dip to end of the school year with gains in durable goods, food, rubber and plastics, and a surge in construction. Des Moines area rose 2,400, Cedar Rapids up 1,100, Iowa City down 3,600 mainly university staff, with the June unemployment rate expected to show a mild uptick.
