Haylift aids Marengo farmers aid from Trinity Church

Franklin County farmers donated three semi trailers of hay delivered to Trinity United Church of Christ near Marengo. Twenty six farmers waited below as hay bales seven high were moved to pickups and hayracks. Trinity pastor Robert Loffer led the aid effort amid a dry spell since Mother's Day.

Suspect steals eight vehicles in Midwest weekend spree

John Thorton of Farmersburg allegedly stole eight vehicles over a weekend, starting in Garnaville Clayton County, wrecking a car north of Charles City Floyd County, then fleeing on foot, before ending in a Butler County bean field. Police traced his run through Floyd and Butler counties as he swiped six more cars with keys left in ignitions.

Yellowstone fires close to Old Faithful as 40,000 acres burn

A 2,500 acre Yellowstone forest fire neared Old Faithful with two other blazes within a mile of a closed hotel. Total Yellowstone fires day added up to about 40,000 acres in the park as drought and low precipitation persisted. Fires raged across Wyoming and neighboring states with Alaska reporting 53 active fires.
