Cedar Rapids School Board Approves 1978 79 Budget and Fees
The Cedar Rapids Community School Board approved a 1978 79 operating fund budget of 40 688 906 including a gifted and talented pilot and a writing project. They revised the prior balance and approved 38 648 298 appropriations and 37 900 947 42 expenditures for 1977 78 with a 747 350 58 unspent balance. New Kingston Stadium rental fees range 65 75 per hour with 20 percent of gross to non educational groups, and further rate increases planned. The board also adopted transportation and food service policies and renewed lunches contracts with Hawkeye Area Community Action Program and purchased bakery and dairy supplies from Colonial Baking and Tri County Dairy.

Cedar Rapids Area Soap Box Derby party set for Saturday
A family party for the 16th Cedar Rapids Area Soap Box Derby will be held Saturday at the Al Snodgrass farm near Center Point. Activities start at 10 a.m. with a barbecue at 5 p.m. Reservations are due Thursday and can be made by calling Jerry Knight or Willard Brown. Six contestants received seven special trophies, including Steve Knight for best-constructed senior car and Rick Philpott for best-constructed junior car. Rookie of the year honors went to Duane Peiffer and Duane Muntzing.
