Crackdown Told On Moped Thefts By Police

Police spokesman on Thursday warned of rising moped thefts and said a crackdown would start in coming weeks. Detectives arrested two youths aged 13 and 15 on Wednesday over recent thefts linked to mopeds stolen Friday and Saturday a week earlier, with a 16-year-old also arrested for a Saturday theft. The chief of detectives James Barnes noted no national stats but confirmed increased incidents and said plainclothes youth detectives may check moped registrations on patrol.
