Two 17 Year Old Soldiers End Spending Spree in Jail
Two youths, John Anderson of Minnesota and Richard Seloover of Illinois, both 17, checked into Cedar Rapids Montrose hotel for one night then slept in the city jail. They were arrested for passing worthless checks and attempted to pass another. In municipal court they pled guilty and were sentenced to 15 days in the county jail on each charge, to run concurrently. Detectives traced a $15.75 Chicago bank check used at Remm's store and noted a second shop attempt. A hotel check was found on Seloover.

Double Shooting at Diamond Tavern Leaves Two Wounded

Gas Pump Explodes at Mt Vernon Station
A West End filling station in Mt Vernon saw a gas pump explode Friday around 4 p.m. causing damage to an overhead canopy and outside merchandise.
