Farmer Shoots Wife Then Commits Suicide on Iowa Farm
Ernest Faber, 48, critically wounded wife on their Luana farm then killed himself in a barn before 7 am after a quarrel. The wife, 28, an expectant mother, died later at a Postville hospital. Sheriff report details include a 9 year old daughter and a 5 year old son witnessing parts of the scene. Faber left behind five children and his body was taken to a Postville funeral home.

Eleanor Medill Patterson, 64, publisher of the Washington Times Herald, died suddenly at her Maryland country estate. She came from a newspaper family, daughter of Elinor Medill and Robert Wilson Patterson, sister to Joseph Medill Patterson, cousin of Robert R. McCormick, and descendant of Joseph Medill.
