Mine Workers Leaders Reject Strike Proposal
United Mine Workers leaders and President Arnold Miller reject a nationwide strike to protest medical benefit cuts. They back a program to end wildcat walkouts by about 12,000 miners and to reallocate pension money to the health fund, plus an independent audit of illegal benefit payments. The plan aims to curb production losses from wildcat strikes amid a stalled BCOA reallocation fight.
