Two C R Men Drown In Johnson Iowa
Two Cedar Rapids men drowned in the Iowa River in Johnson County after boating accidents. Thomas J. Sojka 30 of 1334 Tenth Street NW was thrown from his boat Friday night north of Iowa City. Gene McHugh 40 of 618 Eighth Street NW was thrown into the river when a two boat collision south of Jolly Roger boat docks. Deputy reports say Sova swam to shore while Sojka disappeared.

Slaughter at Iowa Farm Leaves Kitten Survivor
A farm seven miles southeast of Belle Plaine saw a brutal animal slayings attack by vandals described as real sickies. A cat and four dogs were killed and a dog throat slit while a kitten survived, hidden behind furniture. Phyllis Main and her three children live on the farm, with authorities noting four motorcycles in the area and a shooting that occurred about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday. Main had been in Linn county jail for a license charge when the incident happened and was released Thursday.
