Iowa crops progress despite storms and rainfall

Iowa crop progress last week shows corn averaging 61 inches in height with one third tasseling and 14 percent silked. Soybeans 53 percent blooming with 61 percent rated good or excellent. precipitation averaged 2.12 inches and topsoil moisture 26 percent surplus. Secretary Bill Northey noted storms caused isolated damage but favorable weather aided growth.

GM joins utilities to study plug in car infrastructure

General Motors along with 30 utility firms and the Electric Vehicle Research Institute forms a partnership to tackle policy and technical issues for the Chevrolet Volt set to roll out in 2010. The group will study charging timing, grid capacity, apartment and workplace charging, and who pays.

Investment groups bid for TransAlta in 7.8 billion deal
