Tornadoes hit Covington and Cedar Rapids causing damage
A pair of F2 tornadoes struck Covington and Cedar Rapids Sunday night. Homes on Peace Avenue NW lost roofs, with one house left roofless after a 15 second basement shelter. Dozens more damaged as debris filled Floral Drive yards and power lines toppled leaving about 35 000 customers without electricity. The storm produced 25 000 lightning strikes in four hours and disrupted services including Mediacom cable and local offices. Local residents described the noise of the wind and shattering glass as responders cleared debris and Red Cross aided residents.
