End of Linn County Home As It Gives Way To New Facility
The Linn County home north of Marion on highway 13, built in 1892, faced demolition as a modern county care facility planned for a site nearby. The aging building, once housing about 180 residents, suffered from poor heating and lighting, with meals and routines reflecting its poor-farm era origins. The 1950s to 1970s saw renovations and changes, but Tuesday marked the wrecker’s ball for the old structure, hinting at a new administrative complex to rise this autumn.
