Slavery accusation surrounds immigrant key chain ring in New York
Seven people were arrested on charges they held dozens of Mexican immigrants, many deaf, captive to sell key chains in a scheme described by Mayor Giuliani as slavery. Among the 64 victims were 12 children and three pregnant women. Authorities said a recruiter shamelessly ferried migrants from Mexico, some via Texas and California, to New York. The ring allegedly coerced workers with threats while many victims faced possible abuse.
