Five Sentenced on Guilty Pleas to Separate Counts
Five defendants from Cedar Rapids and surrounding areas were sentenced in Linn district court on guilty pleas to varying charges. Steven J. George Trokosh was fined $1,000 for uttering a forged instrument and accused of passing a forged $45 check in Mt. Vernon last Aug. 3. Judge Harold Vietor presided over Trokosh. Life Sentence For Skyjacker Garrett Trapnell
Garrett Trapnell was sentenced to life in prison for a TWA hijacking from Los Angeles to New York 18 months earlier. Judge Jacob Mishler imposed the maximum, noting Trapnell admitted the crime but pled insanity. The 35 year old hijacker used a razorblade to release a concealed gun from a plaster arm cast and directed the plane to land at Kennedy. After landing, 93 passengers were freed and he was wounded by an FBI agent posing as a relief crewman eight hours later.
