Boswell recalls fatherly defense during Lamoni home invasion
Rep. Leonard Boswell said he acted as a father not a veteran when he wrestled with an armed intruder who assaulted his daughter and wife at their Lamoni farm home. The 77 year old congressman, nursing a broken rib, credited his family for grit and described how his grandson’s shotgun forced the suspect to flee. The case remains under Decatur County sheriff FBI and state criminal investigation.

State seeks use of Riggs statements in rest stop murder case
The prosecution asks the court to reconsider suppressing statements made by Peter Riggs in the Jeffrey McAdam murder at an Iowa rest stop. Judge Baumgartner previously suppressed the Miranda waiver as involuntary due to Riggs mental deficiencies, but the state argues the waiver was ambiguous under an objective standard and that Riggs volunteered parts of his statements. The trial is scheduled for October 17 in Davenport's Scott County District Court.
