U S Cavalry Expands Beachhead at Pohang Korea

In a swift operation the First Cavalry Division expanded its beachhead near Pohang on Korea's east coast less than 40 miles from front lines. Troops landed at dawn Tuesday and secured a large perimeter to protect a new fighter base.

Camp Good Health Fund Seeks Two Week Deficit End

The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports a two week deficit quota for the Camp Good Health Fund may be met this week as $600 was raised today with $108.79 remaining for the second $600. A major donation arrived from Lewie Wassendorf, Bob Barry, Waugh Even, and Dave Little from a carnival held at 2523 Franklin Ave NE. Total cash counted was 13.12 in coins and one dollar. Funds support operating expenses for Camp Good Health, a health camp for physically handicapped children, sponsored by the Public Health Nursing Association. Donations may be sent to The Gazette Camp Good Health Fund.

President Truman asked Congress to empower a rapid U S buildup to counter Communism in Korea and deter aggression abroad at an initial cost of 10 billion dollars. Bread Prices Up One Cent in Cedar Rapids Bakeries

Four of Cedar Rapids five major bakeries raised bread prices by one cent to meet higher production costs. Colonial Baking, Petersen Baking, Cedar Rapids Bakery, and Richter's boosted prices to 18 cents for a pound-and-a-quarter loaf. Sramek's sale price held steady for now. The move follows a similar price rise by Des Moines bakers earlier in the week.

Two Men Accused of C.R. Swindle Held in Chicago

Cedar Rapids detectives tracked a two year pursuit ending in Chicago where Nick Contentos and Detective Navratil identified Peter Antonio and Louis Lacatello as the men who swindled him out of 6050 dollars. Antonio lured Contentos into a false house hunt while Lacotello aided the ruse. Lacotello had been released on bond before the arrest.
