Wallace nomination tests Iowa GOP in 1940 ticket
Des Moines reports the Wallace Roosevelt ticket as a national draw that could affect all races in Iowa. Republicans fear Wallace’s prominence may deter down ticket votes, while still aiming to keep the state in GOP control. Wallace, the only native Iowan to reach a major party nomination, is seen as a potential ballot box influence.

Wallace Nominated Vice President Candidate Praised by Iowa Farmers
Iowa farm leaders welcomed Henry A Wallace of Des Moines as the Democratic running mate nominee. They noted his strong agricultural record as secretary of agriculture while cautioning he would be missed in that post. Johnson of the Farm Bureau praised his service and similarity to McNary, and Smith of the Iowa Grange said views largely align though not always. Wallace had previously backed the McNary Haugen farm bill, comparing it to a federal reserve for farmers.
