The wet spell aided soybeans but arrived too late to rescue many corn crops stressed during tasseling. farmers in Guthrie County reported poor yields amid heat and drought. Fire and Water Damage Hit IE Tower on Monday
A fire on the 19th floor of the IE Tower gutted a vacant office and sent smoke to the tenth floor while water from two open valves above damaged first floor offices. District Fire Chief David Smith said the cause is under investigation. Dean Redmond alerted at 7 02 a.m. and fire crews began pumping water through two valves. IBM had not yet expanded into the 19th floor, per building manager Ken Magina.

Lightning Strikes Cedar Rapids Area Cause Property Damage
A Monday morning bolt toward Mt. Mercy college and several other strikes caused property damage. The Cedar Rapids fire department reported seven lightning incidents including a tree falling on a residence at 2336 Linden Drive SE, minor damage to the house.
