Monticello Flood Plan Favored Levee and Dam Proposal
Residents backed a levee and floodwall plan at Monticello city meeting to curb flood damage from Kitty Creek. The Army Corps presented seven options, with the levee dam solution winning strong votes, and projected costs at 740,500 dollars with 671,000 dollars in federal aid. A ponding area could double as recreational space, including an ice skating site in winter, while questions about flood levels east of Kitty Creek and a new bridge were raised. If approved, a final plan would follow with another public hearing later in the year.
