A magistrate court list shows numerous individuals fined for traffic offenses. Names include Kaska Stoddard Horak McInroy and more, with fines ranging from 10 to 100 dollars plus costs for speeding license violations parking and other infractions in various locations and states.
In Linn district court, a March 12 charge of driving on the wrong side was dismissed against Robert E. Bos, 20, of Center Point. A July 1 drunk driving charge was dismissed against Norman Blackcloud, 20, of 702 Seventh Street SW. Costs will be paid by the state. Virginia L. Nelson, 41, of Springville, charged May 2 with drunk driving, given a deferred sentence. Patrick J. Huber, 44, of Hopkinton, charged March 20 with drunk driving. Dean C. Starr, 34, charged June 7 with criminal trespass, fined $100. Timothy D. Thompson, age/address not given, charged June 21 with muffler violation and reckless driving, fined $100 on each charge.
A London Old Bailey jury of seven men and five women found the homosexual newspaper Gay News and its editor Denis Lemon guilty of blasphemous libel in Britain’s first such trial in 56 years. After five hours of deliberation the 10-2 verdict cited a poem depicting Jesus Christ as the victim of the libelous work.
James Lane, 27, of Toledo, charged with taking unrequested pictures of pedestrians during a street argument. Police said he worsened tensions with a mob. he was released on his own recognizance. The 1941 ordinance bans candid street photography with a $25 first violation fine.
