Three men die and two are injured when a Coast Guard plane on a mercy mission crashes off the New Jersey coast after taking a sick man aboard the ketch Atlantis. Names include Priest Lieutenant Clemmer and John Radan. Injured are Yeoman Hayes and Radioman Evers.
Cedar Rapids news reports grocers threaten a boycott of Petersen Baking Co Colonial Baking and Cedar Rapids Bakery after notices to cease selling stale bread at half price. Mrs Frances Mally of 707 Fourth avenue SE was struck by a bicycle at First avenue and Seventh street E at 8 30 p m Friday sustaining a broken nose and bruised hip. Her brother J H Reimers filed a police report saying the rider refused to give his name and rode away. She was helped to her feet and taken home by a pop stand worker. A physician attended her and detectives seek the rider.

Ralph Kout, 20, of Vinton, suffered a fractured left leg when his truck struck a 30 foot guard rail on E avenue NW near Thirteenth street. The truck rammed the railing after the lights failed, impaling through the cab and body, then plunged down a 15 foot embankment and rolled over. Kout was taken to St Luke's hospital. owner Max Schloefelt was with him prior to the crash but could not be located afterward.
A escaped Oklahoma convict identified as Jack Russell abducted a Wisconsin youth then freed him near Elgin. Russell, dubbed the singing cowboy, is sought for the slaying of William Scott Hamilton, a KU graduate found shot near Ringwood Illinois. A police alert covers the car and suspect details.
Alice Austin and Theodore Simmons were convicted of murder in the truck bombing that killed Bail Austin. The jury fixed a 14 year prison term after deliberating from Friday evening to early Saturday. Tra Scott pled guilty and testified for the state. Lucene McDowell lost a leg in the blast.
In Wuhu on July 3 a Japanese sentry is alleged to have slapped two American women missionaries a Canadian woman missionary and an American boy. American and British officials reported the incident to the Shanghai Japanese consulate which promised an investigation. Those named include Mrs Walter Haskell of West Plains Missouri Mrs Haskell's 14 year old son Winston Mrs Anna Stocks of Bristol Connecticut and Miss Bertha Cassidy born in Canada attached to the Advent Christian missions Wuhui school.

He warned clerk PW Lincoln to reveal the safe combination and demanded a mes sage for J W Baker before fleeing. The same suspect had staged a similar robbery about six months earlier and El Ackerman, the messenger, was present in both cases. The robber was not apprehended.
Cleveland case notes Frank Dolezal charged with beheading one of 13 torso murder victims. Judge Day grants rearraignment after finding no counsel at prior hearing. New hearing set for Friday at Justice of the Peace Penty's office. Dolezal’s attorneys pursue habeas corpus action for immediate access.

A copper water heating tank exploded Friday night at the Lake Champlain club in Burlington. Club manager Russell Brown and Edward H. Thornton were killed, a nine year old girl Suzanne Kelley also struck. The tank roared down the eighth fairway for 200 yards before stopping in the sod. Cause unknown though observers suspect steam from a fire-filled tank.
The Transatlantic flying boat of the American Export Lines landed at Foynes Ireland on Saturday completing an ocean hop over the northern route New York headquarters reported.
Rescue teams report 19 of a trapped group killed after an underground blast at the Dusin Coal mine near Providence. Twenty eight miners remained confined as a second entry was pursued, with four rescued and two injured. State and federal officials coordinated the effort, while townspeople waited at the mine head.
