The Iowa Railroad Company celebrated its new east west line with a ribbon cutting at the Iowa City depot attended by about 70 officials. The Des Moines backed carrier began freight service in June on former Rock Island tracks from Council Bluffs to Johnson County and aims to restore Iowa’s rail traffic. President Bryan Whipple said the goal is to rebuild profitable traffic, with freight cars primarily at night and potential special football trains to Iowa City for Hawkeyes games. Rep.
