Abandonment Seen as Widespread Social Issue in Iowa City
Johnson County Assistant County Attorney Dad Bray describes weekend doorstep neglect of a 4-year-old Florida girl at an Iowa City church as part of a broader pattern. He notes cases arise from parents at work or away, with social services and police coordinating investigations and potential child-in-need-of-assistance petitions. Bray cites frequent reports from babysitters, landlords and neighbors and explains the legal process for medical exams and possible removal of children.
