A Mississippi town column shares humorous army notes from ROM PRIVATE R D VERNON of Company F 136th Infantry Camp Polk La. He jokes about 5:30 a.m. routines in three inches of mud and a light pack weighing 65 pounds without the pup tent, plus consequences for mock officer impersonation.
Lois Keller daughter of Mr and Mrs Hermann Keller married Wesley John Novotny son of Mrs Marie Kuchynka at North Glendale Community Methodist Church. The Rev Ezra Ellis officiated at 530 PM on July 5. The couple planned a Santa Catalina Island honeymoon and will reside in San Diego with reception at the Keller home in Burbank California.
Mrs. Charles Willits and Mrs. William Pulda honored Thursday night at Ellis with a picnic supper after recent marriages. George Wetzel hosted a mock wedding for the group and many friends attended.
A Friday barn dance near Iowa City drew about 30 guests to the Lillick property two miles east. University of Iowa graduates Barbara and Ruth Lillick hosted with neighbors and a Cedar Rapids band led by Bob Moody. Larry Hard taught square dances while Ruth used a broom for a playful routine.
Edna Mae Haldy announces the bridal party for her wedding to Robert M L Johnson set for July 20 at 4 p.m. in Coe College chapel. Maid of honor is Anna Mae Messa with Ernest Mickel as best man. Bridesmaids include Mrs Ernest Mickel. ushers are Dean Hollingsworth and John Bready. Organist is Mrs David Mitchell and vocal soloist Mariam Dieman.
Newcomers club invites all new residents to a Thursday bridge tea from 2 to 4 30 p m in the Roosevelt hotel ballroom hosted by Mesdames Bennett Tony Arthur Alvis Vernon Vogel William Selby Norton McLean and Raymond Smi Miss Carolyn Hood celebrated her twenty first birthday with a party at 1416 Third street NW Guests included Mr and Mrs Marion Allen Mrs Kermit Byerly Mrs Dale May and several relatives and friends
Mr and Mrs M Hill announce the July 19 wedding of their daughter Zona to T Cyril Noon. The ceremony at 4 pm will be in St Pauls Methodist chapel with Rev W G dating. Miss Doris Hill will be maid of honor and J Robert Noon best man. Ernest W Curtin and Mrs Curtin arrived home Friday after his trip to New York.
Appreciation of America will be the keynote of this afternoon's Camp Fire Girls pageant at Camp Hitaga with a cast of campers and counselors performing America the Beautiful at 4 o'clock. Miss Fern New comer directs the music and Miss Elizabeth Barber will read. Public invited.
Miss Zona Hill scheduled to marry T Cyril Noon on July 19 spurs a series of social events. Edith Jones Mary Sireit Patricia Hushaw and Mrs Max Hardy join in gatherings as Mrs W C Hill hosts a buffet supper at 506 Longwood Drive NE with corsage placecards and a later bridge session.
Mrs. Van Meter’s parents Mr and Mrs H E Wormhourt stay at a lake cottage. Mrs W C Henning left with sister Mrs Mabel Landahl for a six weeks trip visiting Black Hills Yel aerk Seattle Portland and California. Mr and Mrs Ray T Moore depart for Battle Lake Minn for two weeks. Dr and Mrs F G Ladd join relatives for ten days at Cass Lake and Cedar Falls. Mr and Mrs C R Owen and children depart for a trip to Minneapolis Alexandria and Ste Croix Wis.
