Delhi Trucker Fined After Fatal Accident
Robert Leon Offerman of Delhi received a 35 dollar fine and 18.10 dollars in costs after a 16 June collision two miles west of Manchester on highway 20 that killed Mrs. Charles Hathaway of Waterloo. He was charged with failing to yield to an approaching vehicle. Offerman said he braked hard to avoid the Briggman car, causing his pickup to strike Hathaway's car. Hathaway died the next day.

Lake Mills Iowa officials report four adult Canada geese and 13 goslings planted at Rice lake may trigger Iowa’s first goose nesting in 50 years. Additional birds from federal refuges arrived. raccoon predation reduced goslings, but researchers anticipate nesting next year with a plan to allow a 50 pair population to migrate.

Hatchery flood damages walls and creek closure
Retaining walls at several ponds washed out while the creek through hatchery grounds was closed to fishermen. Despite widespread mud, the spring north of the hatchery kept a heavy water flow and the spring-fed lines for the trout pools delivered clear water during the flood.

Charles Pearson and his wife Myrtle Pearson both 66 from Oskaloosa Indiana died in a head on collision with a truck near Clarks Nebraska on Highway 30. The state patrol reported the deaths occurred Wednesday three miles west of Clarks.
