Tavern faces beer license decision amid local debate

The Waubeek tavern license renewal was heard by Linn County supervisors who delayed a vote after hearing petitions from 200 to 259 supporters and about 75 opponents. The Rev. The board will act at the next regular meeting after consulting the county attorney.

Mae Leota Clausen died Tuesday morning after eight years as teacher at College Community school until ill health forced retirement in 1961. Born August 2, 1903 in Kansas she married Ernest Clausen April 6, 1940 in Nashua. Survived by husband five brothers two sisters and several relatives. Services at Turner chapel 1:30 Thursday conducted by Rev John Creese. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Ryan Couple Kayes Two C R Lawyers Hullingers Accused

In Linn district court the Schulers sue Cedar Rapids lawyers L M Hullinger and family for 10000 alleging fraud and misrepresentation over a Ryan nursing home deed and furnishings. They claim the Hullingers obtained the property in bankruptcy dealings and sold the home without paying them. The suit seeks 7500 for the home and 2500 for furniture with a jury trial requested.

Cedar Rapids school budget rise tied to enrollment growth

Assistant Superintendent Dean Stoakes projects 19,000 students for Cedar Rapids schools this fall, up 1,054 from last year. Six new buildings and staff additions including 5 principals and 55 teachers drive the increase, with higher per pupil costs and added state aid shaping the plan.

World War II veteran Cletus Oyen dies in Iowa City

Cletus A. Oyen, a Collins Radio security guard for six years and World War II veteran, died after a three week illness at Veterans Hospital in Iowa City. Born October 17 1914 in Dubuque he married Cleo Gerner August 9 1937 in Garnav ille. Survived by two sisters Mrs John Blondin and Mrs Irven Jogerst of Dubuque and his wife. He was a member of All Saints parish. Services scheduled for Thursday at Hoffman Funeral Home in Dubuque with time to be announced.

Girl Lost in Woods Finds Unused Logging Road to Bluff Beach

Beckyfamily became lost in the woods and, after following an inactive logging road, reached a high bluff overlooking a beach. She fell during an attempt to reach the beach and was knocked unconscious, describing the fall as like going to sleep.

The Cedar Rapids school district compares key totals of the proposed 1961-62 budget with 1960-61. The entire budget rises to 10,505,211 from 9,607,183, a gain of 898,028. Patrolman Rescued After Abduction Slogs to Farmyard

Wilke recounts captivity ordeal where captors spoke once saying "Kelly" and forced him from a moving car into a gravel road. He was dumped into a stream, retrieved clothing torn, and staggered to A. L. Keen’s farmyard around 9:20 p.m. Sunday in muddy, wet condition.
