State Approves widening of Iowa City Route 6
The Iowa Highway Commission on Wednesday authorized widening Route 6 in Iowa City to four lanes and reconstructing the Wolff Avenue bridge. The commission and city will share costs. DES MOINES AP Gov Herschel Loveless official car was tagged for illegal parking in downtown Des Moines late Tuesday but the governor will not have to pay the $2 fine. National Guard Warrant Officer Jack Crippen, military aide to the governor, said he parked as a private citizen and would settle for the ticket. Patrolman Tom Spencer said he did not know it was the governor's car when tagging it on Sixth Avenue where parking is prohibited from 4 to 6 pm. Crippen said he had not noticed the sign and parked there while taking Loveless daughter Sandra on an errand.
