A Net Gazette report uses U S Census Bureau estimates to show Tiffin grew 36.6 percent and Fairfax 30.6 percent since April 2000 through July of last year. City officials note continued gains and authors cite Des Moines Cedar Rapids corridor growth as driver. Senate fails to advance malpractice damages limit bill
Senate Democrats blocked the White House backed effort to cap medical malpractice awards amid a 49 48 vote short of the 60 needed to halt a filibuster. The House had approved the measure earlier. it would cap non economic damages at 250 000 and set punitive damages at 250 000 or twice economic damages with contingency fee limits for lawyers.

Knife sweep finds thousands at Linn County Courthouse
