Metro flood panel vows change in Cedar Rapids area zoning
After June 4 flash flooding that caused millions in damage the Linn County Regional Planning Commission panel discussed expanding flood plains and tighter building rules. Engineers from Cedar Rapids Marion Hiawatha and Linn County urged new maps and a regional water study to reduce future flood risk with a Aug. 22 advisory deadline. City engineers noted floodwaters rose about two feet above the 500 year level prompting calls to tighten metro area ordinances.
