Ford Plan on Highway Funds Endorsed by Ray

Des Moines Iowa Gov Robert D Ray endorsed President Ford's plan to redirect the federal highway program. The proposal would shift one cent of the gasoline tax to states and keep one cent of the remaining three in the highway trust fund while two cents go to the general treasury. Ray said the extra cent would generate 9 8 million for Iowa and he would not back a higher state gasoline tax. He supported using the general fund for transportation on a state by state basis.
