Financial markets show cereal and grain quotes with mixed oats and barley values. Sioux City livestock receipts reached 500 calves as slaughter cattle held steady with steer prices around 23.00 for 1,200 lb cattle and heifer prices near 22.75 for 855 lb loads.
USDA Friday estimates show Saturday salable receipts of 300 hogs 500 cattle and 100 sheep in Chicago with hogs steady to higher while shipments lag. Cattle receipts 700 calves, steers and heifers scarce, cows steady to higher. sheep receipts 300 with strong demand for lambs. Des Moines receipts Friday about 27 000 with prices mostly steady to 25 cents lower across weight classes.
In Omaha, cattle receipts totalled 600 with calves at 50. Slaughter classes were generally steady, though not enough steers or heifers offered for a fair test. Stockers and feeders unchanged. One load of choice fed heifers at 22.00, utility cows about 59.75, canners and cutters 8.00 to 9.50, and few choice dealers at 18.00.

Emmett Shheneberger became Noble Grand and Edward Skorepa Vice Grand, with Wayne McCaul as chaplain and over a dozen others named for RSNG RSNG LSNG RSG VGG and guardians. Deputy Grand Master Charles Hermanek led the installation. Junior Past Grand Fred J. Anthony retired from NG.
Officials issued a call Thursday for citizens to join subcommittees of the advisory committee for public schools. The executive committee will coordinate high school planning after the approved 5 950 009 bond issue. Members were asked to choose a subcommittee led by executive board members such as Sutherland Cook, Charles Hastings, Dr Hoyt Thomas, Harry Sargeant, Mrs R L Blahnik, Mrs Merle Miller, and Mrs Irving Churchill.
Special to The Gazette reports Mrs. Frank Knox a 71 year old resident of South English was found in serious condition at University Hospitals Iowa City with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Police said she shot herself with a shotgun around 6 a.m. and was admitted to surgery about 9 a.m. No motive was released.
