Cedar Rapids to get state funded intermodal freight hub
A nearly 25.7 million grant to the Iowa Department of Transportation will fund a three-component intermodal facility southwest of the Highway 30 and Edgewood Road SW interchange on CRANDIC for rail truck transfers, cross docking, and bulk storage. The 46.5 million project will pair with over 21 million from private partners led by CRANDIC and Alliant Energy. The facility aims to connect coast-to-coast rail lines, boost state commerce, and align with Iowa's Freight Plan. Work could start early next year after design and bids.
