In Mitchellville inmates are sewing uniforms for auditorium ushers as part of preserving Hancher history. The project, led by Makayla Tendall for The Gazette, involves inmates crafting garments that fit the venue’s ushers and reflect the campus culture.
At the Mitchellville Correctional Institution for Women inmates sew 18 wool pieces into blazers for Hancher Auditorium ushers. Iowa Prison Industries coordinates with Iowa State University designers. 200 uniforms needed for the September 9 unveiling.
