Four Keokuk children swept into sewer die
A dramatic storm flood swept four Keokuk children into a three mile sewer leading to the Mississippi River. Three bodies were recovered where the sewer meets the river. Randy Pagitt, 4, is still missing. Names: Steve Pagitt 7 Noel Pagitt Wardlow 7 Steve Wardlow ?, all Keokuk. The tragedy followed a heavy downpour turning a shallow drainage ditch into a fast torrent where the youths played. Witnesses recalled the boys being swept one after another into the tunnel and then vanished.

Two Boys Killed By Lightning In Ainsworth Farm Tragedy
Two boys near Washington were killed when the tractor they rode was struck by lightning around 3 p.m. Monday on the Gilliand farm ten miles northeast of town. Danny Cottrell, 15, visiting from his home, and Boyd Gilliand, 13, eighth grade student, died instantly. Their bodies lay at Jones funeral home in Washington.
