Mother recalls pain as sentencing in Cedar Rapids murder case

In Linn County District Court, Cameron Barnes’s mother Venus Barnes described the loss as a pain no parent should endure after Duval T. Walker Jr was sentenced to life without parole for first degree murder linked to a March 17 2023 shooting at Cocktails & Co in Marion. Walker also received concurrent terms and $150000 restitution to Barnes’s heirs.

DNR fines Marion firm over asbestos exposure at demolition

The Iowa DNR fined Irish Capital Investments after the Marion site of the former Crestview Acres Nursing Home yielded about 20 000 square feet of asbestos containing tile and more than 10 000 square feet of drywall joint compound. Workers were not kept wet and not properly trained during removal. The firm agreed to a 7000 fine and pledged stricter protocols.
