Tragedy at Bellevue Fourth of July Parade
A buggy driven by Mardell Steines was dragged by startled horses for six blocks injuring 24 spectators and killing Janet Steines 60. Police said a bridled horse lost its bridle causing the rampage as the buggy struck a combine and a road sign. Janet Steines died at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.
