Fireworks tragedy after giant tree limb collapses at courthouse
Two men died and a pregnant woman was injured when a massive oak limb fell during a Quad Cities fireworks display at the Rock Island County Courthouse. Daniel Ortiz Mendoza, 61, of Rock Island, died at the scene. Lawrence Anderson, 72, of Moline, died later. The tree, about 100 years old with an 8 foot 2 inch base circumference and 45 feet long, fell as rescuers and bystanders attempted to help victims.
