Fire Claims 30 at Cold Harbor Mental Hospital wing
A fire swept a wing of Cold Harbor Mental Hospital in Sherborne England killing 30 of 36 male patients in a ward. Seven were rescued by nursing staff, six injured, one later died. The wing had opened nine months earlier, doors were unlocked, and investigators had no cause yet. The hospital serves about 325 patients in other buildings.

Five Arrested After Filming Melodrama in Kansas City Suburb
Police halted a staged assault on a rail line when a passerby alerted authorities in Overland Park Kansas. Patrolman James J Weaver detained four men and a youth. In police HQ the group admitted they were filming a home movie with an 18 year old woman playing a distressed damsel and one man wearing a villain costume. All five faced disorderly conduct charges.

Concorde Orders Dropped by Air Canada
Air Canada canceled its order for four Concorde supersonic jets priced at 50 to 60 million dollars each. Board chair Yves Pratte said premium travel potential and an operational evaluation showed the aircraft not suitable for Air Canada's overseas routes or market size.
