Protest marks groundbreaking for Iowa City Shelter House
A Wednesday ground breaking for the Iowa City Shelter House drew protest from Waterfront Neighborhood Association members who say the site violates a new sex offender law creating 300 foot exclusion zones around youth gathering places. They argue the shelter will house offenders during the day for baths and laundry, while officials maintain the building complies with the law and that exclusion zones do not apply to the shelter.
