Since the Iowa Supreme Court ruling legalizing same sex marriage on April 27, 100 applications were filed in Johnson County and 71 in Linn County. About 75 percent of couples obtaining licenses in these two counties were women, with around 30 percent listing out of state residences. At least five applications involved partners in their 60s.
Washington AP shows Mississippi remains highest in adult obesity and 31 states have over one in four adults obese. Obesity rose in 23 states last year with no significant declines. experts call it a national crisis.
Iowa adults sit at 22nd in obesity nationwide down from 19th last year while Iowa youths rank 44th with 26.5 percent obese or overweight. Adult obesity rises slightly to 26.7 percent from 26.3 percent a year ago.
