Iowa prison population declines with aging offenders
Iowa officials report the prison population fell to 8,458, the lowest since 2007, as aging baby boomers leave the system. Declines are linked to fewer new admissions, drop in drug felonies, and longer stays for violent offenders, with forecasts around 8,900 in 2018.
