Energy Bill Satisfies Administration Despite Cuts
The Carter administration approves House Ways and Means action on the energy tax plan. The committee version lowers projected oil savings to 2.8 million barrels daily by 1985 from 4.7 million, raises about 55.3 billion in taxes 1978–85, and offers a 20 dollar per adult refund. It also taxes gas guzzlers, weatherization credits, coal incentives, and limits the state local gasoline tax deduction. The panel votes on July 13.
