Army Sets Up Plan To Speed Minority Gains
Washington AP reports the army launches an affirmative action plan aimed at doubling black officer numbers and expanding minority and women opportunities across officer programs and specialties. It sets detailed percentage goals for blacks, other minorities, and women over ten years, though critics say blacks are overrepresented in combat roles. Secretary Callaway ordered the plan before leaving the Pentagon to lead Ford's campaign following a findings review.
