West Des Moines AP report says Noreen Gosch believes her missing son Johnny Gosch was seen three weeks ago in a large southwest city with two men one possibly matching a composite sketch. She cited a PM Magazine or Donahue appearance prompting youths to alert her family.
Iowa Commerce Commission reports an 8 percent rise in natural gas use for the year ending Sept 30, driven by a colder than normal winter. Residential demand up 8.24 percent, commercial 7.19, industrial 9.85, while total electricity usage stays nearly flat despite a 0.1 percent increase and a 2.7 percent drop in residential electricity.
Cedar Rapids attorney Bruce Gibson was appointed by the Iowa Supreme Court to a two year term on the Lawyer Trust Account Commission. The panel will oversee an interest bearing fund to finance civil legal aid for low income Iowans. Members serve without compensation but may be reimbursed for expenses.
Iowa residents will see a nonsensical negative figure on 1040A and 1040 forms due to misprinted instructions. Department officials say the error does not change actual tax or refund amounts and will be ignored by state computers. The misprint would cost about 150 000 to reprint, so they will explain the issue instead.
The Iowa Senate blocked a move to place the state lottery under the Iowa State Racing Commission and sent the bill to the State Government Committee. Opponents worry a single agency may not fairly handle gambling dollars from parimutuel racing. Senator Norman Rodgers favors racing commission control with a director of the lottery instead of a separate lottery agency.
