Alliant Energy executives described a five year rate freeze tied to the Cedar Rapids data center boom. The utility cut requested electric revenue increases from 284 million to 185 million and natgas growth from 14 million to 10 million, while noting ongoing development could extend flat rates beyond five years. The company promotes a diversified energy mix and zero fuel generation as it modernizes the grid to support regional growth and reliability.

Iowa debate heats over civic education expansion at UI
The heated hearing centers on a proposed UI school to teach American principles and free speech, with Branstad noting ISU and UNI already pursue civic education efforts. Critics call the plan ideological, while supporters say it broadens intellectual diversity and institutions would sponsor five tenure-track faculty plus a dean. The proposal aligns with ongoing university programs Cyclone Civics at ISU and UNI Center for Civic Education, and lawmakers advance related education reform bills.
